All About Sunscreen

Children should use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF (sun protection factor) of at least 30. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that parents choose a sunscreen that contains zinc oxide or titanium dioxide, which are less likely to cause skin irritation or allergic reactions than other chemical ingredients. It is also important to choose a water-resistant sunscreen that can withstand sweating and swimming.

There are several popular brands of sunscreen that are specifically designed for children, such as Neutrogena Pure & Free Baby, Aveeno Baby Continuous Protection Sensitive Skin, and Blue Lizard Australian Sunscreen Baby. These brands use natural ingredients and are free of potentially harmful chemicals, making them safe for children’s delicate skin.

It is important to apply sunscreen to children at least 15 minutes before they go outside, and to reapply it every two hours or immediately after swimming or sweating. Children should also wear protective clothing and hats, seek shade during peak sun hours, and avoid direct sun exposure as much as possible.
