Dr. William “Billy” Nesmith is a pediatrician and the founder of Lighthouse Pediatrics, created from his belief that caring for a child should mean more than treating an illness–it should mean knowing the child, supporting the parents, and having the time to care for the whole person.

After nearly two decades of growing a traditional pediatric practice, Dr. Nesmith began imagining a different approach to pediatric medicine. He wanted more time with families, more meaningful conversations, greater accessibility, and the freedom to focus not only on a child’s physical health, but also on their emotional well-being, development, relationships, and future.

That vision became Lighthouse Pediatrics.

Dr. Nesmith graduated from The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio Long School of Medicine in 2000 and has spent more than two decades caring for children and families in Central Texas.

His approach to pediatrics combines expert medical care with preventive medicine, mental and emotional health, parental education, and practical guidance for the everyday challenges of raising children. He believes some of the most important work a pediatrician can do happens through listening, asking questions, and helping parents understand not simply what to do, but why.

The lighthouse itself represents Dr. Nesmith’s philosophy of caring for children and supporting parents: Protect. Guide. Inspire.

Protect them when they are young and most vulnerable. Guide them through childhood, school, relationships, and adolescence. And ultimately, inspire them to develop the confidence, resilience, and character they need to navigate life on their own.

As a father himself, Dr. Nesmith understands that parenting rarely comes with simple answers. He and his wife, Dr. Kim Nesmith, have raised two children, giving him the perspective of experiencing childhood and adolescence from both sides of the exam room.

His own health journey has also shaped the way he thinks about medicine. After facing a serious autoimmune diagnosis in 2016 that temporarily made walking difficult, Dr. Nesmith experienced firsthand the importance of thoughtful medical care, perseverance, and appreciating good health. Eventually, he progressed from walking to jogging to running again–something he continues to value simply because he can.

For Dr. Nesmith, Lighthouse represents the opportunity to practice pediatrics the way he believes it was meant to be practiced: with time, trust, accessibility, education, and a genuine relationship between provider, parent, and child.

Because ultimately, the goal isn’t simply to help children get well.

It’s to help them grow well.
